The Donas Large Mid-Century homes, spectacular views
The Donas (or Doñas) is a unique development of upscale single-family homes built in the 1960s in the Studio City Hills—east of Fryman Estates, south of Ventura Blvd., and north of Mulholland Drive. This prime "South of the Boulevard" neighborhood boasts large homes (2500-4000 SF) built in kitchy-cool Mid-Century architectural styles, with stunning views of San Fernando Valley and beyond.
The Donas is so-named because every street begins with Doña, the Spanish word for Madam (Doña Teresa, Doña Maria, etc.). "The Donas" is often pronounced "The Donnas," but purists favor a more (or less) Spanish pronunciation: The "DOE-nyas" or "DAW-nyas."
This small, lovely community features high-end homes—most of them built on cul de sacs, and most updated—and extremely low turnover rates (only XX Dona homes were sold in 2013). The Donas neighborhood straddles the east and west sides of Laurel Canyon Blvd., and is conveniently located for easy access to Ventura Boulevard restaurants, shops and galleries to the north, and an easy commute south to get to West Hollywood, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and the west side.
With Fryman Canyon immediately to the west, residents have easy access to some of the best hiking, jogging, dog-walking, and horseback-riding trails in Los Angeles. And parents are pleased to know that every home in The Donas falls within the Carpenter Community Charter Elementary School district.
